The weather here has been lovely in Ireland but I also know that London is basking in a two week heatwave. I still watch the London weather, like an obsessive to torture myself. This weekend it will hit a high of 33 degrees. Am I jealous – yes I am.
Now I understand many will complain that this is “too warm.” But I take heatwaves very seriously. Plans must be made, picnics packed, BBQs cooked. Difficult decisions must be made. Do you drive 1.5 hours on the motorway to the beach for some respite or do you go to a National Trust property where there are trees and shades? It’s a tough one.
(The children in front of Standen House and Gardens. 3 June 2021. They didn’t want to go at first complaining about the heat. We had a lovely day in the end.)
Also, this is the time to wash all the blankets, coats and other heavy duty items as they will dry – for free – in about 10 minutes! Then the paddling pool must be filled and ice – cream cones bought. I also remind myself that London mums will be doing the school run well into July (madness) so when people complain here in Ireland that it is ‘too hot’ at 21 degrees I just say – you have no idea. Especially as the beach is five minutes away.
I will be at the beach this Saturday (now rain is forecast) for the most serious and fabulous competition of them all. The National Sandcastle and Sand sculpture competition at Bettystown is on. . I will be reporting for Gript media. Truly, I have arrived. Baby John is entering the under 4 competition and I am sure he will smoke all those other 4 year olds. Emma is sizing up for the under 10s. Team Perrins is here!
Finally, in honour of the heatwave I will try to offer some sort of reduced price for new paid subscribers. I say try, as I don’t really know how it works. But if you do receive an e-mail and it makes sense now is a good time to subscribe. You can sit in a darkened air – conditioned room hiding from the London heat while reading the archive. I really appreciate all my current paid subscribers and ask others to consider a subscription.
There will be 20% off offer, I hope. Currently the monthly plan is £7, the annual plan is £70 and founding plan £100. This offer expires on Sunday, when Londoners will be melting. This link should work.
But know, I will be nowhere near the computer. I shall building sandcastle extraordinaire.
For over 10 years at TCW in the UK, then Gript in Ireland and now here on Substack I have tried to tell the truth.
I told the truth on grooming gangs at least as far back as 2017. I was called racist for my troubles. I said lockdown was a disproportionate response to Covid and would trigger a fall-out the wiped out any benefit. On that one – I was a granny killer.
Since then mental health problems have soared as did inflation triggering a serious cost of living crisis. I have consistently challenged the insane open borders policy both in the UK and Ireland and the general destruction of national identity in both countries. I think that made me a fascist.
I do not suffer the pro – Hamas derangement syndrome which means I am in a club of about 5 in the south of Ireland. I think that killing Jews is a bad thing – something which sadly seems to be back up for debate in the West.
Pointing out the moral bankruptcy of Ireland’s neutrality during WWII made me a West- Brit. If only they knew that I take that as a compliment not an insult.
I pointed out the stupidity of the vindictive VAT policy on private school fees in the UK. And I have also tried to have some fun along the way, despite it all.
There is no amount of money anyone could ever pay me to say or write something I don’t believe. That’s why I’m not loaded, although due to my hard working husband we are comfortable.
I say what I believe. That will always remain the case. If you think that is something worth paying for, please do.
In the meantime. Enjoy the weather, wherever you are.
(A little house in Whitstable August 2021. I went with the girls it was not too hot. I gave birth to John the following weekend.)

Laura,
I really appreciate your forensic analysis and honesty on many topics and old fashioned decency and hard work.
As an anonymous reader I don't have to suffer the public trolling and woke brigade insanity that common sense writers like yourself have to suffer, though I share most if not all of your views.
Thank you for what you do and enjoy the weekend.
Enjoy your weekend Laura.
