On London and managed decline.
Once London was the beating heart of an empire upon which the sun never set. Today, people think it is a bit of a dump.
My old editor Kathy Gyngell at TCW picked up on the debate Fraser Nelson v Matt Goodwin here.
A lot of people think London is not the great city it once was. I always enjoy my trips back there but my husband who travels over and back for work thinks it is decline and prefers living here in Ireland. London listeners do let me know what you think.
Women - callous and not always caring.
I tweeted that, “I don't want to hear any more nonsense on how having more women in politics will lead to a more caring society. Last week’s vote on abortion up to birth and assisted killing should disabuse you of this dangerous delusion.”
Last week Labour MPs, many of them women, voted to decriminalise abortion up to birth for pre-born infants and for assisted dying for the old. The idea that female MPs would protect the vulnerable and those who care for them was a mistake.
I talk about the bizarre priorities of the Labour government here at Gript.
I said, “There are a few things that make this entire Labour show bizarre. I don’t think you have to be Catholic or worry about the culture of death to think that focusing on changes that will result in more death – more dead pre-born infants and more dead sick and vulnerable people – is weird. Also, none of these issues were in the Labour manifesto before the general election. They are niche issues pushed through either in a Private members bill or amendments to governments bills by MPs who want to be seen as relevant. Sure, they believe in the change but that only makes matters worse.”
Have a great day!
